3. Uses and Advantages – Glufosinate Ammonium 200 g/L

Glufosinate-ammonium is a non-selective, post-emergence herbicide with strong contact action and limited translocation.

Key benefits

  • Controls a wide range of weeds: broadleaf, narrow-leaf, annual and perennial species.

  • Fast action: penetrating quickly into leaf and stem tissue, causing yellowing and necrosis in 3–5 days.

  • Suppresses weed seed germination in the soil after application.

  • Registered uses: coffee, citrus, fruit trees, cocoa, banana, and non-crop land.

4. Mode of Action – Glufosinate Ammonium

Glufosinate-ammonium inhibits the enzyme glutamine synthetase, which is responsible for converting glutamate and ammonia into glutamine.

Mode of action details

  • Disrupts nitrogen metabolism.

  • Causes toxic accumulation of ammonia in plant tissues.

  • Leads to rapid desiccation and cell death.

  • Effective alternative to glyphosate in Integrated Weed Management (IWM) programs because it uses a distinct mode of action.

  • Helps mitigate herbicide resistance by diversifying control mechanisms.
