Active ingredients:

  • Propisochlor 160 g/kg

  • Bensulfuron-methyl 40 g/kg

Formulation type: WP (Wettable Powder) – a wettable powder formulation in solid form, fine granules with high water-dispersibility.

Mode of action / Function: Pre-emergence and early post-emergence herbicide for selective weed control.

Target weeds: Echinochloa spp. (barnyardgrass). Fimbristylis miliaceaCyperus difformisCyperus iriaMonochoria vaginalis Ludwigia spp. Scirpus spp.Ammannia spp.Algae and aquatic weeds (various species)

1. How to Use Herbicides Containing Propisochlor + Bensulfuron-methyl

Recommended application rate

Depending on commercial formulation and weed pressure:

1.0 – 1.5 kg/ha (adjust according to weed density).

Formulations may include granules or wettable powder, applied directly and uniformly across the field.

Application timing

Best applied during:

  • Pre-emergence to very early post-emergence stages of weeds.

  • 1–5 days after sowing, or 3–7 days after transplanting.

Field conditions

  • Maintain 3–5 cm of standing water.

  • Avoid water flow or drainage for 24–48 hours after application.

  • If the field is too dry or water-stressed, herbicide efficacy will be reduced.

Application technique

  • Apply evenly and uniformly across the field.

  • If using spray application:

    • Mix according to product recommendation, agitate thoroughly, and spray evenly.

Repeat treatments

  • Re-application is not required if applied at the correct timing.

  • If weed pressure is very high or emerged weeds decline slowly → supplementary treatment with a post-emergence herbicide may be necessary.

2. Technical Information on Propisochlor + Bensulfuron-methyl

Propisochlor (160 g/kg)

  • Chemical group: Chloroacetamide.

  • Controls annual grasses (barnyardgrass, Echinochloa spp.) and some broadleaf weeds.

  • Strong pre-emergence activity.

  • Stable and persistent under typical field conditions.

Bensulfuron-methyl (40 g/kg)

  • Chemical group: Sulfonylureas (selective systemic herbicide).

  • Highly effective on broadleaf weeds and sedges (Cyperus spp., Monochoria, Ludwigia, etc.).

  • Systemic, inhibits growth and cell division.

  • Widely used and well-suited for paddy rice ecosystems.

Advantages of combining both active ingredients

  • Wider weed control spectrum: grasses + broadleaf weeds + sedges.

  • Dual action timing: pre-emergence + early post-emergence.

  • Multi-site weed suppression, reducing resistance pressure.

  • Ideal for wetland rice fields, especially mixed-weed infestations.

3. Herbicide Benefits (Corrected)

Effective control of multiple weed groups in rice

  • Grasses: Echinochloa, Leptochloa, and related species.

  • Broadleaf weeds: Monochoria, Ludwigia, Ammania, etc.

  • Sedges: Cyperus difformis, C. iria, Fimbristylis spp.

Controls weeds from the earliest stages

  • Acts before weed emergence or at early seedling stage.

  • Minimizes early-season weed competition.

Long-lasting effect

  • Residual activity 10–20 days depending on soil and water conditions.

  • Keeps the field clean, allowing rice plants to tiller vigorously.

Selective and safe for rice

  • Does not cause leaf burn.

  • Very low risk of phytotoxicity when used correctly.

4. Mode of Action of Propisochlor + Bensulfuron-methyl

Propisochlor – Inhibition of Protein & Lipid Synthesis

  • Blocks protein and lipid biosynthesis.

  • Prevents cell division in weed seedlings.

→ Weeds fail to emerge or die shortly after emergence.

Bensulfuron-methyl – ALS (Acetolactate Synthase) Inhibitor

  • Inhibits ALS enzyme, blocking synthesis of essential amino acids (valine, leucine, isoleucine).

→ Weeds stop growing and die within 3–7 days.

Safety Precautions When Using Herbicides

  • Keep out of reach of children.

  • Do NOT eat, drink, or smoke while handling or applying the product.

Do not store the product near food, feed, or household items.

  • Avoid inhalation and contact with eyes, nose, and skin.

If exposure occurs, move away from the treated area immediately.

  • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE):

Protective clothing, gloves, mask/respirator, and safety goggles.
